MEET YOUR UK HEAD OF MISSION

Topic of the week :
Are our Diplomats in the UK serving us well? What should we expect from them? Send your views
Who is a diplomat? Who is a high commissioner ? Who is an ambassador?
A diplomat is a person who works for a public institution whose purpose is to communicate with other countries, promote cooperation with those countries, help people who are in a foreign country, etc. A diplomat can work in his home country (for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or a similar institution) or in a foreign country (at a foreign mission: an embassy or a consulate). Diplomats who work abroad include ambassadors and consuls.

In the Commonwealth of Nations, a High Commissioner is the senior diplomat (generally ranking as Ambassador, above an Envoy) in charge of the diplomatic mission of one Commonwealth government to another. As sixteen Commonwealth members, known as the Commonwealth realms, share the same monarch as Sovereign Head of state (currently Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II), diplomatic relations between these states are traditionally at a governmental level, and so these governments do not appoint Ambassadors to each other, since Ambassadors are the representatives of one Head of state to another.Meet your Head of mission in the Uk below:
