A kinght from Bukene

sir chande

Chairman of Barclays Bank in Tanzania, Chairman of the Tanzanian National Railways, and one of the very few business confidants of President Julius Nyrere and his post-colonial successors, Sir J. K. (Andy) Chande shares eight decades of memories, experiences and wisdom as a key participant in the radical economic and social changes that East Africa witnessed during the second half of the 20th century to modern day.

President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and former Tanzanian President, Benjamin Mkapa, once paid tribute to Sir Andy Chande, a local businessman, for his economic contribution to the East African countries in the last decade.
Andy Chande has been prominent in Tanzanian enterprise, a devoted public servant in his native Tanzania, and a tireless worker in charitable organizations, such as Rotary, both at home and internationally. To mark the publication in Canada of his memoirs “A Knight in Africa: Journey from Bukene,” Andy Chande’s address will include an informative analysis of economic development in the Third World, the politics of decolonization and the effective distribution of aid to the poor.
